10. Oberyn vs The Mountain – Hotel Belvedere, Dubrovnik, Croatia
The Croatian city of Dubrovnik can be used for many places in Game of Thrones, but our favourite has to be an abandoned hotel used for one of the show’s most shocking moments.
Constructed in the 1980s as a luxury hotel, the Belvedere was destroyed by Serb forces during the Croatian War of Independence. It was used during the first few months of the battle as a refugee shelter.
Haunting now, the deserted building was sold at a public auction in 2014 for over 12m Euros to Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg, also famed for possessing among the best private collections of Fabergé eggs, by the way, should you need to check out a Fabergé egg collection anytime soon.
